12 Sea Haiku

 Greeting the shadow

Tolling through the fog
The high tide and harvest moon
Summon each other

With feet firmly beached
I could start to drain the sea
With this thimble cup

You go dancing down
Into that appalling deep
While I watch, frozen

Kvenvær village, Norway

Ancient fishing folk
Were dragged from their subsistence
Into this fake town

Everybody here
Leans right into their madness
As into a storm

The salmon barons
Splashing cash on everyone
Try to play it cool

Someone found a cave
Full of fish bones and stories
Which no one can read

Per and Amy's Island, Norway

Thrust out from the shore
Amy wheels among seabirds
In her wooden nest

An ancient flounder
She dragged from its subsistence
Is minced for winter

We watched an otter -
Not the one that brought you here -
Swim to your window

All of the timber
Per has milled to build this house
Has crossed this footbridge

The sea froze last night
Sealing up the exit routes
From this bright snow globe
